Homeschooling
Hart Nelson's homeschooling approach focuses on teaching students to learn independently.
We teach students how to learn. The homeschool environment is characterized by student involvement and action, by
thoughtful reflection, mindful engagement, and rigorous assessment.
A homeschool education is characterized by active learning: the collection, memorization, and classification of knowledge
as well as the development of abstract reasoning ability and analytical thought. Besides getting a solid foundation in fact and theory,
students learn to analyze and evaluate ideas. We help students to synthesize the knowledge they have accumulated, teaching them to
read critically, write persuasively, and communicate ideas from a position of knowledge.
The role of the teacher is that of facilitator and collaborator. Teachers are responsible for
assessing and attending to each student's developmental needs, providing guidance, monitoring academic growth, and
leading each student into new areas of understanding and competence.
