Tutors of the Month

Nana
Nana Boakye is a graduate of Princeton University's Class of 2008. While there, she majored in History with a certificate in Latin American Studies. Her interest in Latin America, advanced Spanish skills, and history focus led her to win an award-winning senior thesis on Chilean human rights. Upon graduation, she worked in Ethiopia for a year as a grant and proposal writer for International Rescue Committee as well as undertaking special projects in the refugee camps. Nana tutored throughout college, having a special focus on writing, literature, Spanish, and history. She works well with a variety of personality types and has demonstrated success, particularly, with motivated, yet struggling, pupils. She is currently tutoring in New York City and preparing to start Harvard Law School in the fall.

Liz
Liz graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with an A.B. in English. She is the recipient of the Walter C. Hughes Prize for Excellence in Senior Thesis as well as numerous grants to support her thesis research. She received a nomination for the Quin Morton '36 Writing Seminar Essay Prize and was a four-year Edward J. Bloustein scholar. In high school, Liz was recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar and served as the Historian for her school's chapter of the National Honor Society. As a tutor, she has worked with students on a variety of subjects, including college admissions. Her students have been accepted to and currently attend such prestigious institutions as Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Loyola University. She currently works in theater, focusing on new play development and artistic administration. She tutors English, writing, and Italian.

Christopher
Christopher is a graduate of Princeton and Yale, where he received an A.B. in Biology and an M.S. in Environmental Science. He was a recipient of several academic awards, including the Carpenter/Sperry/Mellon Award, a Theresa Heinz Scholarship for Environmental Research, and a Princeton Environmental Institute Research Grant. He has worked on ecological research projects in such far-flung locales as Alaska, Panama, and Tanzania. He began his teaching career as a Yale teaching fellow, assisting with the instruction of graduate and undergraduate courses in biology and environmental planning. Since 2002, he has been tutoring and homeschooling in New York, Hong Kong, and Bordeaux. He teaches math, science, and (since he got a 1600 on his SAT) test prep.

Derek
Derek graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in the Comparative Study of Religion. Coming from a family of educators, he has extensive teaching experience in French, English, writing, and test prep (SAT and PSAT). He has also taught hundreds of yoga classes, and has a thriving private yoga practice in the West Village. His patient, humorous approach, combined with his strong speaking voice, gives him a special ability to motivate students.
